Amazing Race Ep. 1

I have made no secret of the fact that I love the Amazing Race which began its 21st season tonight.  I have always joked with one of my best friends, Catharine, that she and I would make a great team for the Amazing Race.  Maybe Season 22 will be our shot!  In the mean time, I've decided to feature a destination from each episode in a post.  I've always found the different destinations and the activities for the Road Blocks and Detours that showcase the local culture to be fascinating.  So here goes!!

您好,欢迎光临上海
(Nín hǎo, huānyíng guānglín shànghǎi)
(Hello, Welcome to Shanghai)
Our 11 new teams' first international destination was Shanghai.  Shanghai is divided by the Huangpu River into Puxi (the area West of the river) and Pudong (the area East of the river).  After taking on the junior table tennis champion and then eating a Chinese dessert consisting of frog fallopian tubes served in papaya, teams then had to make their way to the Bund and find a woman with an abacus.  The Bund is one of the inner districts of Puxi that sits along the riverfront and offers amazing views of the skyscrapers that mark the commerical and financial district of Pudong on the east side of the river.

View of Pudong from the Bund.

One of the things that stuck out to me from the episode was the floral wall that we got to see as the racers ran towards the pit stop for this first leg of the race.  In case you missed the episode, Helen Evans has posted some wonderful pics of the wall here.
